Youth Geology Field Camp

June 7-10, 2009

If you like outdoors, then Geology Field Camp is  for you! This camp provides an understanding of the  earth. How does it work? Minerals, rocks, magmas, landforms.......

Some things that you will do and learn:
  • Minerals, Rocks  and Fossils
  • Basic Geology
  • Learn to use topographic maps
  • Learn to read compass
  • Understand geologic maps
  • Understand water, landslides, earthquakes
  • Learn geology of the Black Hills
  • Live the life of a field geologist for five days
  • Understand making of mountains and landforms
  • Know about volcanoes and magmas
  • Collect minerals, rocks and fossils

Field Camp gives you a chance to experience outdoors college life. You will have roommates in tents, eat real outdoor cooking, visit the museum of geology, library and research labs, and go on field trips to see geologist in action at real geology camps and local industries. Camp will start Sunday, 6:00 PM at MI parking lot and end Friday after at noon at the same place. This is an overnight camping activity. We will set up tents for the entire week. Counselors are assigned to the campers in a ratio of one for every ten campers.
